It started with a question nobody had asked.
In 2019, in Charlotte, NC, someone asked: what is the word pet short for?
Not as a joke. As a genuine question. Because the word pet had always felt too small for what the relationship actually is. The creature who gets you home on time. The one who rearranges your schedule without asking. The reason you are never truly alone. The animal that knows when you are sad before you do.
That is not a pet. That is something else entirely.
After entirely too much deliberation, the answer arrived: Petamomus.
What the word means.
Petamomus is the long form of pet. The bond between a human and their animal companion. Not the animal itself, and not the person alone, but the relationship between them, the specific irreplaceable thing that happens when two lives become entangled.
Everyone who has ever owned an animal already knows this feeling. They have been describing it in three paragraphs for years every time someone asked, oh, do you have any pets?
Now there is one word.
What we are building.
Petamomus is not a pet product company. It is a relationship brand. Every product we make exists to celebrate the bond between a human and their companion, not to sell you something to put on your pet.
The logo says it plainly: a human silhouette and an animal silhouette, nose to nose. The human never changes. The animal is whoever lives at your house. Dog, cat, bird, rabbit, reptile, or something the internet does not have a name for yet.
One bond. Any companion.
The four types.
In studying the bond, we found that Petamomus owners fall into four distinct categories. Not based on the animal. Based on the relationship.
The Guardian has a post. Eyes on the door. Loyal to a fault and deeply suspicious of the mail carrier.
The Chaos Agent owner has accepted that the rules no longer apply. The rules make no sense, change without notice, and are enforced selectively at 2am. They would not change a thing.
The Velcro and their companion operate as a single unit. Six feet is the maximum acceptable distance. This is not a phase.
The Diva runs the house. The schedule, the seating arrangements, the emotional weather of every room. The Diva does not ask for attention. The Diva commands it.

The long game.
We want Petamomus in the dictionary. Not as a brand name. As a real word. The kind that outlives all of us and ends up in a crossword puzzle in 2047 and someone just knows it.
Words get into the dictionary one way: people use them. Sustained, widespread, independent usage over time. That is the whole mechanism. Which means the path to the dictionary runs directly through you.
Every time you say the word, you are voting for it to exist. Every time you wear it, someone asks what it means. Every time someone asks, the word spreads.
That is the plan. It is a long one. We are inviting you into it.
